Career Attainment & Professional Soft Skills
Professionalism is addressed in all of my classes. Confidentiality and respect for children, families, and colleagues in the field is stressed. Students begin observing in the field during the first semester, so I spend class time exploring and explaining professionalism in attire as well as behavior. The NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct is used in all classes.
NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct
Starting with our introductory course, ECD 101, students are immersed in what it means to be an early childhood professional. We explore the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct and their professional responsibilities to children, families, colleagues, and the community.
Resume Development
All students create a professional resume with the guidance of the Career Resource Center.
Practicing Interview Skills
Students develop interview skills by participating in mock interviews in various ECD classes. They also conduct interviews with parents and professional colleagues to obtain information regarding children's learning and development. We practice poise, professional presentation, eye contact, active listening and confidence.
